Lt. Sean Smith with the Gwinnett County Detention Center said the 30-year-old Pro Bowler was stopped at 4:06 a.m. Tuesday on I-85 near Steve Reynolds Boulevard. Turner lives in Suwanee.

Gwinnett County Police spokesman Cpl. Edwin Ritter said Turner was going 97 mph in a 65 mph zone.

"The officer pulled him over for speeding, smelled alcohol on him and conducted field sobriety tests.  Turner refused a breathalyzer test and he was booked into the jail," said Ritter.

Turner was released at 7:12 a.m. on $2,219 bond, according to Smith.

Sources tell 11Alive News that Turner was at a strip club, Magic City, in the hours after the game and before his arrest.

Coach Mike Smith said he met with Turner in person Tuesday.  At the team's regularly scheduled press conference he briefly addressed the situation.

"Anytime a player sheds negatively on our football team and our organizion we are very disappointed.  This is a legal matter.  We will let it proceed through the courts," Smith said.

Smith added that the National Football League has a procedure to follow when a player is arrested, but would not elaborate on what that is or what may happen to Turner.  Smith did confirm that Turner will be at the scheduled practice Wednesday like every other player.

Turner sealed the Falcons' victory Monday night with a 15-yard gain late in the fourth quarter of their home opener.
