Government estimates say 2011 was the first year Americans spent more money on remodeling than they did on new homes.
A Marietta family did just that, by gutting their kitchen, two bathrooms and a laundry room. "As far as the best place to invest your money, kitchens, bathrooms and master bathrooms get the greatest return on your investment," said Remodeling Expert Mark Buelow of Distincive Remodeling.
Buelow is a member of NARI, The National Association of the Remodeling Industry. His Marietta renovation is one of four on the NARI tour of remodeled homes Saturday September 29th. The self guided tour features homes in Marietta, Duluth and Atlanta. I'm serving as honorary chair.
"You get to see firsthand projects both before and after. And you get to see what to expect from the process,"said Buelow.
Buelow says even if you can't afford a six figure renovation, smaller do it yourself projects like new paint, fixtures, faucets and tile can add value to your home.
Tickets to tour all four homes are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. To purchase in advance go to AtlantaRemodelingTour.com. Tickets will also be available Saturday at the individual homes. Proceeds benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
