ATLANTA -- Hundreds of thousands of holiday jobs are now up for grabs, but with so many people out of work, competition is fierce.

"Bring your A game," said hiring expert Beth Herman, regional vice president for Manpower. "That's what they want."
It doesn't matter if you've never worked in retail or haven't worked in retail for a long time. Herman said lots of skills are transferable between occupations.
She adds that just because a position is seasonal, it doesn't have to end when the season is over.
"The reality is it's a foot in the door," she said. "It's a working interview."
Herman said the best of the best are kept on after the holidays and can move up or around within a company down the line.
