CARTERSVILLE, Ga. -- A 20-year-old man is charged with murder, aggravated battery and two counts of false imprisonment after police said he attacked two women he was living with Tuesday morning.
Cartersville Police Lt. Mark Camp said Deandre Davoughin Hightower stabbed 29-year-old Candice Piper to death after an argument Tuesday morning at their home in the Alexandria Landing apartments on Old Mill Road.
"It appears that Miss Piper had not stayed at the apartment on Monday night," Camp said in a statement. "When she came home in the morning, she and Mr. Hightower got into an altercation."
Camp said the other woman, Rosa Williams, was asleep when the altercation began and didn't know what caused the attack. Williams was not stabbed, but she told police Hightower pushed her against a wall. She was treated for superficial injuries.
When officers arrived, Williams said Hightower ran into the woods behind the apartment complex. He was found and arrested within 20 minutes.
