Hostage rescued during Fred's Dollar Store standoff

CEDARTOWN, Ga. -- Local authorities have arrested a suspect who held a person hostage and robbed a Cedartown dollar store on Thursday night. 

According to police, around 9 p.m. officials responded to Fred's Dollar Store on Main Street in Cedartown. The Polk Sheriff's Department were en route to the robbery when they learned that an employee had been taken hostage as the robber fled the scene. 

Polk Police chased the man down a few blocks before Cedartown authorities were able to catch up to the suspect and ram his car off the road. 

The suspect was taken into custody immediately following the chase and the hostage was rescued without incident. The identities of the suspect and the victim have not yet been released.
