"Go for Gaucher" 5K Walk/Run event is scheduled for this Sunday, October 14th, at Mason Mill Park in Decatur. The event is designed to raise awareness for Gaucher disease, a debilitating and often fatal genetic disease. As many as 1 in 200 people in the general population may be carriers of the disease. Symptoms include bone pain, easily broken bones, osteoporosis, enlarged liver, easy bruising and fatigue. The disease can be detected through a simple blood test.
All donations go to the National Gaucher Foundation (gaucherdisease.org) , a non-profit organization that disseminates information to the general public and medical community about the disease.
