ATHENS, Ga. -- Athens has made CNN Money's list of 25 Best Places to Retire 2012.

According to the report, "Athens is best known for football, but there's plenty more to love. This college town about 70 miles northeast of Atlanta has all the bells and whistles of a big city-great health care, live music, fine cuisine-minus the sprawl and expensive housing."

The report notes that the median home price in Athens is $142,000, and that the top state income tax is 6 percent.
