The system responded to the claims of school board mismanagement in a letter, explaining what it believes it has accomplished since Cheryl Atkinson became superintendent a year ago.
The letter includes 16 specific changes "approved and/or supported by the Board" and "designed to move the district forward."
Among the accomplishments listed: a complete forensic audit of the district's financial records by an outside agency.
The letter told the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, "Progress is ongoing and we have not stopped working on any concerns. Some issues take longer than others to resolve"
SACS leaders say the investigation is in response to more than a dozen complaints about the school system. Some of the complaints deals with how the system spends taxpayer dollars.
The investigating team is expected to stay though Friday.
