MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. (WMAZ) -- Georgia College dorms are now open again, but the rest of the campus is still evacuated due to a bomb threat.
The college tweeted around 4:30 that the dorms are open again.
Vice president John Hechtel said the bomb threat was phoned into a local law enforcement agency just after 3 p.m. He told 13WMAZ's Candace Adorka that the caller did not cite a specific location.
Hechtel says students and staff were notified by Twitter, Facebook, text alert, sirens and loudspeakes.
Baldwin Fire and Rescue posted this note to their Facebook page:
"An emergency condition exist on Georgia College Campus. Please evacuate as calmly and quickly as possible. Exit all buildings and proceed off campus. If you need shelter go to First Baptist Church."
Milledgeville police chief Dray Swicord said his department received a call to help with the evacuation.
He said campus police are now searching the campus room by room.
The school also notified students and staff by email and text alert.
Around 3:50, the school reported the campus is closed for the rest of the day, including all classes, meetings and activities.
