Election Day isn't just about the candidates; for some companies it's about marketing, and that can mean freebies and deals for consumers.
Boston Market is asking customers to cast their ballots online for either its chicken or turkey bowl entrees. Voting ends November 6th and the company promises some kind of prize on the 7th for all those who voted, no matter which entrée wins.
Jet Blue Airlines is offering a chance for a free flight out of the country if your candidate loses. Go to www.jetblueelectionprotection.com and cast your vote. 1006 losers will actually be winners, with a free flight to the Bahamas, Turks and Caicos or several other Carribean destinations.
Pet lovers can vote for either dogs or cats on Purina's Facebook page. For each vote cast they'll donate a dollar to the Pet Therapy for Veterans Charity, up to $100,000.
All three promotions are online games that don't require citizens to actually vote in the election. That's because the Federal Election Commission prohibits any type of compensation for voting. Even a Washington, DC area bar that offered free beer for those with an "I Voted" Sticker was forced to cancel the offer.
