Atlanta named no. 8 most dangerous city

ATLANTA -- The Big Peach is the eighth-most dangerous city in the United States, according to an analysis of recent FBI data.

Business Insider's analysis of violent crime reports shows Atlanta averaged 1,433 violent crimes per 100,000 people last year.

The national average was 386.3 violent crimes per 100,000 people, which was a five-year low.

The FBI's definition of violent crime includes murder and non-negligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault.

The most dangerous city was Flint, Mich. followed by Detroit, St. Louis, Oakland, Memphis, Little Rock and Birmingham. Baltimore and Stockton, Calif. followed Atlanta to round out the top 10.
