Trae Elliott

TALMO, Ga. -- This is how the Elliott family always pictured it. Watching Georgia football, spending a fall Saturday in their tiny town of Talmo cuddling their newborn, Trae.

As they approached Election Day, mother Carey couldn''t help but think about the last one.

Carey and most of her family has always worked at polling precincts on Election Day. She was at it again during the primary election in July when, 58 days ahead of schedule, Trae came knocking.

Carey thought it was false labor. But an hour later, Trae entered the world and the situation quickly became very real and very scary.

Doctors with Children's Healthcare of Atlanta performed immediate surgery on the 18-hour-old baby. Trae made it out and then spent the next 58 days in neo-natal intensive care.

But now, Trae is home and he is recovering and peaceful. And for a family that loves all holidays, from Halloween to Georgia football Saturday. They'll always have a soft spot for Election Day: the day the tiny town of Talmo added one special baby.
