MARIETTA, Ga. -- Two busloads of members of the Roswell Street Baptist Church packed the Marietta city council meeting Wednesday to protest a controversial land.

Pastor Ernest Easley claims the city acquire a $1.5-million piece of church property for pennies on the dollar.

"We just want the city to give us a fair amount of money for the land they're taking form us," Pastor Easley said.

The pastor says the church has been in negotiations with the city for more than decade.

The city wants the land for a road-widening and improvement project.

The problem is that there has been little agreement on what the land is worth and how much the city is willing to pay for it.

Pastor Easley says the city lowballed them and when they refused to sell, tried to condemn the property and take it over their objections.

With the city council chambers packed with church members, the council dropped plans to condemn the property.

Instead, they voted to hire a mediator, hoping the two sides can finally agree on a fair price for the land.
