DECATUR -- Friends and family of Robert Champion will gather Monday to remember the former Florida A&M drum major and Southwest DeKalb graduate.

It was a year ago Nov. 19 when Champion was beaten to death on a trip with the school's marching band.

Police said it was hazing. Several students face criminal charges in the case. Champion's parents are suing the university.

The memorial starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Community Acheivement Center on Flat Shoals Parkway in Decatur.
