KENNESAW, Ga. -- Friends of the Cherokee County couple injured in last week's Texas parade crash are planning their first fundraisers for the Ladners next month.
Shane and Meg Ladner were riding on float in a parade for wounded veterans when a train barreled into them. Four people were killed. The Ladners were among more than a dozen others who were hurt.
Meg lost her left leg in the crash. Shane, a Holly Springs Police officer, suffered back injuries.

The couple was finally able to return to metro Atlanta Monday night, where they will continue medical treatment. 11Alive's Help Desk arranged to help the Ladners with some of their immediate needs, but they still face many expenses ahead.
To help, the Ladners' friends are hosting two fundraisers at the LongHorn Steakhouse at 2700 Town Center Drive in Kennesaw. The pancake breakfasts and silent auctions will run from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1 and Saturday, Dec. 8. A $20 donation is requested.
Donations are also being accepted through a fund for the Ladners at Cherokee Bank. Updates on their recovery are being posted on a Facebook page, "Prayers for Shane and Meg Ladner."
