ATLANTA, Ga. -- By now, most of the almost 3500 hundred checks mailed out to city of Atlanta residents have been received. The checks were sent to residents who were overcharged for their water service.
The $7.5 million dollars in refunds were mailed out after an audit found that 'human error' was to blame for the inflated bills. Watershed Management officials say several improvements have been made to the billing system.
These refunds are only for residents with irrigation systems and a majority of the checks were for Buckhead residents. The average check was for $2,100.
An audit of indoor water use will be completed by the end of December. Thousands of Atlanta residents complained over being overcharged by as much as a thousand dollars a month.
