ATLANTA -- A 10-year-old girl was wounded late Tuesday by a shotgun blast intended for her father.
Atlanta Police Capt. Adam Lee III said the father arrived at his Amal Drive SW apartment and was confronted by a man armed with a shotgun. The man had been hiding behind shrubbery near the apartment door.
The father ran inside and closed the door. Lee said the gunman fired once, striking the door and door frame. The pellets penetrated the door and hit the young girl, who was lying on a couch in the living room, in the lower left leg and foot.
The girl was taken to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston in stable condition. Police did not release the names of the victims.
Lee said the gunman, who was attempting to rob the father, escaped.
