GRAYSON, Ga. -- Two people, including a Gwinnett County Police officer, were injured in a wreck on Grayson Highway Friday morning.

The accident happened at around 5 a.m. on northbound Grayson Highway at Brackin Trace in front of Starling Elementary School, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.

Gwinnett County Police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith said the injured cop, Officer McCall, was stopped in a left turn lane when he was hit head-on by a black Acura driven by 50-year-old James Snyder of Loganville.

Snyder's car hit a concrete median and a sign before crashing into McCall's car, Smith said.

Both drivers were taken to Gwinnett Medical Center with minor injuries.

Grayson Highway was temporarily shut down while police investigated the wreck. Smith said it appears Snyder fell asleep at the wheel. He has been charged with driving on the wrong side of the road and failure to maintain a lane.
