December 17th is the fourth annual Free Shipping Day, started by entrepeneurs Luke and Maisie Knowles in 2008.
More than 1500 nline retailers have already registered at Freeshippingday.com and FreeShippingDay.org.
Keep in mind Free Shipping doesn't always mean free return shipping so check return policies. Or take advantage of Free Shipping Day to send flowers and gift baskets to friends and relatives.
To maximize your savings, use a price comparison site such as Google Shopper, PriceGrabber.com or TheFind.com. Occasionally stores that offer free shipping offset the savings with inflated prices.
And makes sure to earn points while you shop by enrolling in My Points, Ebates, or Swag Bucks. The point accumulate and you earn gift cards or even cash back.
And look for coupon codes on Offers.com, Savings.com and RetailMeNot.com to get additional discounts .
Free Shipping Day is far from the only day consumers will find free shipping since many online stores offer the service every day, but it will become more scarce as Christmas approaches.
