GAINESVILLE, Ga. -- Brenau University has relocated in downtown Gainesville, into the former Georgia Mountains Center.
According to David Morrison of Brenau, the now Brenau Downtown Center will hold all expanded graduate degree programs in physical therapy and several other sciences. The expansion, a $6.5 million project will be a continuation of a close relationship between the college and the city.
"Our mission, our job is to give opportunities when opportunities do not exist, to find chances for people to advance their skills, their learning, their appreciation to the world - hopefully - their ability to make a working and gainful wage for themselves and their families," Morrison said.
Brenau has been using a small historic campus for classes and programs, while the center downtown has been losing money. So, the 10-year lease between Brenau and the venue should help the school grow, as well as Gainesville's finances.
Starting in January, renovations and construction work will be put toward creating meeting spaces and classrooms.
The theater, meeting rooms, ballrooms and other public spaces will be available for use by community members and groups.
