DALLAS, Ga. -- Paulding County Sheriff's Detectives and Georgia Bureau of Investigations Agents arrested "Murder for Hire" suspect Melissa Bennett Silvers on Friday in Dallas, Ga.
According to Corporal Ashley Henson of the Paulding County Sheriff's Office, 48-year-old Silvers was taken into custody at Lost Mountain Academy Daycare and charged with Conspiracy to Commit Murder. She worked as a teacher at the daycare.
Silvers unknowingly contacted an undercover Agent on a plot to kill her ex-husband two weeks ago, Henson said. Over the two weeks, the two talked on the phone to set up details of the plot.
On Thursday, December 6, Silvers met the Agent at a local business. In the parking lot, she paid the Agent part of the money that had been agreed upon in the murder plan.
In the plan, Silvers had set up her ex-husband to be at their home around 8:30 a.m. on Friday, to have firewood delivered. The Agent was supposed to pretend to be the firewood delivery person, and shoot and kill Silvers' ex-husband while he was there.
However, Silvers insisted that the shooting take place outside the home so there was no mess inside.
The couple divorced in January 2012, but Silvers was living at the ex-husband's home because they had adopted children. Silvers' motive is still unknown.
Silvers is now held at the Paulding County Detention Center without bond.
