CALHOUN, Ga. -- Police and federal officials say a single-engine plane crashed and burst into flames shortly after takeoff in northwestern Georgia, killing its lone passenger.
Lt. McGivern of the Calhoun Police Department confirmed the fatality. The passenger's identity has not been released.
According to Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen, the amateur-built aircraft crashed in the woods after departing from an airport in Calhoun around 2 p.m. Tuesday. The plane was destroyed in the crash.
The FAA is investigating the crash and additional information was not immediately available.
