ATLANTA, Ga. -- On Tuesday afternoon, seven days before Christmas, the Butler Street YMCA granted some Christmas wishes.
It was a chance to put a smile on a child's face and an opportunity to feed even the smallest tummies.
The event was a holiday wish for local chefs and volunteers with the Butler Community Development Corporation.
The Christmas wishes were granted by a few of Santa's Helpers from the 11Alive Help Desk on Tuesday night.
More than two hundred people packed into the YMCA gymnasium. The gymnasium that once stood as a beacon of light in the lives of many underserved neighbors in the community.
Bill Liss with the Help Desk worked to coordinate food donations from the Atlanta restaurant community.
Shane McIntosh of Ocean Catering Company couldn't wait to pitch in and help. Along with McIntosh, Rob Merrick of Cypress Street Pint and Plate, Ellen McTigue and Jorge Alvarado of Genki Noodles & Sushi, and Matt Coggin of D.B.A Barbecue provided a variety of food for the event.
The chefs willingly donated food and their time, and not to mention the others who pitched in with toys to help make sure none of the children went home empty-handed.
