WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- A Cherokee County elementary school was placed under "Code Red" alert Wednesday morning when a man with a weapon was spotted near the campus.
The alert went out at around 6:50 a.m. when the man was seen close to Mountain Road Elementary School in Woodstock, according to school principal Tammy Sandell.
Buses carrying Mountain Road students were rerouted to a nearby high school during the investigation.
Sandell said the Cherokee County Sheriff's Department determined the man was actually bowhunting near the Mountain Road campus.
"We are very appreciative of the school district's police department and the Cherokee County Sheriff Department for their assistance," Sandell said in a letter sent to Mountain Road parents.
The school day resumed as normal at around 7:30 a.m.
