MACON, Ga. -- Georgia-bred recording artist Young Jeezy beat Santa Claus to the punch Monday afternoon.

He visited the Booker T. Washington Community Center in the Pleasant Hill neighborhood of Macon, one of five stops around the state on Christmas eve.

He teamed up with Pastor Tony Lowden, director of the Stone Academy after school program, to gather kids for the event.

"Young Jeezy reached back," said Lowden, "He's more than just an entertainer, or a Grammy nominee, he's part of this community. He loves Macon and he loves this area."

It was the rapper's fifth visit to the center to hand out gifts, and he said it's now something he looks forward to.

"I work year round, everyday restlessly," said Jeezy, "and when I get a break, this is what my break is about, giving back and coming back to my community, back to my people."

"They were just giving out toys for free. It was so exciting!" said 10-year-old D'Anthony Callwood. He got a video and MP3 player, but also got his moment in the spotlight with a celebrity.

"I shook his hand and we took a picture together," he said. "I think he's cool. Cool, nice and generous."

Lowden estimates they handed out toys to about 2,000 children.
