The suspect waits to be transported to jail
LITHONIA, Ga. -- A woman was taken into custody early Friday after reportedly setting fire to her DeKalb County home.
The suspect, whose name was not released, started the fire at the house on Kilkenny Circle in Lithonia after discovering her boyfriend was cheating on her, according to DeKalb County Police Lt. K.D. Johnson.
Johnson said officers visited the house at around 2:45 a.m. to perform a welfare check. When they arrived, they saw smoke coming from an upstairs bedroom.
Responding firefighters forced their way into the house, put out the fire and rescued two children, ages 3 and 4.
According to Johnson, the suspect began the fire after an argument with the children's father. She hurt her foot during the fight, but the extent of her injuries was not immediately known. Nobody else was injured.
The woman was taken to jail and charged with arson and cruelty to children. Her kids were released to relatives, Johnson said.
The fire did not spread beyond the upstairs bedroom where it was set.
