GUYTON, Ga. (AP) -- Authorities say an Effingham County sheriff's deputy is recovering from injuries he suffered during a rollover crash.
Deputy Sheriff Anthony Cantrell and his K-9 partner J.O. were in a cruiser with its lights and sirens on when the driver in front of them slammed on his brakes.
Cantrell swerved, lost control of the vehicle and rolled into a ditch. Authorities say Cantrell and the police dog were pinned inside the cruiser for over 30 minutes.
The officer was airlifted to Memorial Health University Medical Center and his K-9 partner is also being treated for minor injuries.
The other driver - identified as Rhett Cash of Rincon - has been cited for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.
Guyton is about 20 miles west of Savannah.
