It appears the officer was hit while investigating a crash on Interstate 20 near Maynard Terrace.
ATLANTA -- An Atlanta Police officer is recovering after being hit by a car on the job.
The officer, whose name was not released, had pulled over to investigate a crash on Interstate 20 near Maynard Terrace in southeast Atlanta, when another driver rear-ended the squad car.
Atlanta Police spokeswoman Kim Jones said the squad car's blue lights were flashing at the time of the accident, which happened at around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday. The impact of the crash pushed the cop's car about 100 feet.
The officer's leg and back were injured in the crash. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital and has since been released.
Two people were in the car that hit the officer's squad car. The driver, Kerry Edwards, faces several charges, including driving too fast, driving without valid insurance and violating Georgia's Move Over Law, Jones said.
Edwards is being held in the Atlanta City Jail.
