SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Police in Savannah say an 83-year-old man involved in a wrong-way accident on Interstate 95 that left seven people injured has died.
Authorities say Virgil Hicks, of Statesboro, was pronounced dead Sunday at the Memorial University Medical Center.
The crash happened Jan. 3 just before noon. Police say Hicks and his 82-year-old wife Mary were traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of the freeway and collided with an SUV carrying five people from Boone, N.C.
Police say Hicks turned his 2007 Buick Lucerne left across the freeway trying to get to an exit and collided with a Honda Pilot at the entry to the ramp.
Police say the crash remains under investigation.
