11Alive's Help Desk is bringing in expert firefighters to man an online and telephone effort to get you the best information about making your home safe.

The line firefighters from Atlanta, Sandy Springs, Forest Park and Rockdale County -- including Rockdale County Fire Chief Daniel Morgan -- will provide information on how to install a smoke detector properly in your home, where to get a smoke detector and answering questions on how to plan an escape route from your home in the event of a fire.

The Help Desk has also worked with First Alert to show you where you can get a First Alert Smoke Alarm for free. First Alert has donated 5,000 smoke alarms to the effort.

You can participate online in the chat box below, or you can call in at 404-885-7633. The chat starts at 6 p.m., and runs until 7:30. Phone lines are open during those hours as well.
