ATLANTA, Ga. -- Former Atlanta Police Chief Richard Pennington was presented with the Major Cities Chiefs Association Leadership Award on Monday.
The Leadership Award was created to honor current or former members that have "made substantial contributions to improving policing over their career."
"Chief Pennington made an enormous impact on public safety, not just here in Atlanta, but everywhere he served," said Chief Turner. "I'm proud and honored to walk in his footsteps."
Pennington designed a crime-fighting strategy that worked to restore police accountability called "COBRA" - Command Operations Briefing to Revitalize Atlanta.
He was presented with the award in a private ceremony.
