FAIRBURN, Ga. -- One man was injured in an officer-involved shooting in Fairburn on Wednesday afternoon.

Around noon, Fairburn Police were conducting a security checkpoint near Highway 138 and Lincoln Drive when a vehicle pulled out of line and accelerated toward an officer who was standing in the roadway.

Officers said they attempted to stop the driver but he would not stop, so an officer shot the driver and the driver hit a Fairburn Police cruiser.

The driver was shot in the wrist and transported by ambulance to Grady Memorial Hospital. The 29-year-old driver is listed in stable condition.

Authorities say the suspect was driving without a valid driver's license and authorities located crack-cocaine on his person.

The officer was not injured.
