MARIETTA, Ga. -- On Friday afternoon after a fatal accident, all lanes of Cobb Parkway have reopened between Industrial Park Drive and Allgood Road in Marietta.
The Marietta Police Department is investigating the crash, in which a tractor trailor and 15-passenger van collided just before 7:30 a.m. The driver of the van was killed.
Investigators learned that 47-year-old James David Rast, Jr. of Jay, Fla. was attempting to turn left from Industrial Park Drive onto Cobb Parkway southbound while operating a while 2013 Freightline tractor trailor.
Rast drove into the path of a white 2006 Chevrolet Express van, which was going north on Cobb Parkway, and was being driven by 49-year-old Mahmoud Dabdoub of Marietta.
Dabdoub was killed when he van ran into the left side of Rast's trailor.
Police have charged Rast with failure to yield while turning left and 2nd degree vehicular homicide. He is being held in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center on $250,000 bond.
