New York, NY (Sports Network) - The Chicago Bulls' Tom Thibodeau and George
Karl of the Denver Nuggets have been named the NBA's Eastern and Western
Conference Coaches of the Month, respectively, for January.
Thibodeau garnered the award after leading the Bulls to a 12-4 record in
January, the best mark in the East for the month. Chicago also topped both of
the conference's top two teams on the road during that stretch, posting a
96-89 win at Miami on Jan. 4 and a 108-101 over New York on Jan. 11.
The Nuggets went 12-3 in January under Karl's direction, which matched San
Antonio for the West's best winning percentage during the month, and are
currently riding a five-game winning streak. The veteran coach also picked up
his 1,100th career victory in Denver's 105-95 verdict over Houston on Jan. 23.
Other nominees for the award included Brooklyn's P.J. Carlesimo, Milwaukee's
