(Atlanta Business Chronicle) - The price of gasoline is up in Georgia and expected to continue to rise in February, AAA Auto Club South reported.

Gas in the Peach State now averages $3.44 a gallon, compared with $3.32 week ago, $3.29 a month ago and $3.48 a year ago.

The national average price of regular unleaded gasoline is $3.51 -- up 16 cents over last week.

A positive economic outlook, supply issues, refinery maintenance, and preparation for the summer fuel switch helped push oil prices closer to $100 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. As a result, gas prices increased at a faster rate than expected.
