DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- The DeKalb County School Board will gather on Thursday for the second of two special called meetings.
The board is trying to save accreditation, and find an interim superintendent.
The current leader, Dr. Cheryl Atkinson is on bereavement leave, following the death of her father, so the Board wants to find someone to replace her temporarily.
Several candidates have been interviewed, including former State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurman. The board met Wednesday, and despite orders from SACS and the state school board to work together, it took members more than an hour to vote for a new chairperson. Even then, they could not reach a majority.
"If they can't even come together to vote for a chair, how can they come together and get off probation," David Schutten said. "How can they come together, and how can the public have confidence in this board to choose an interim superintendent or a superintendent?"
