Brent James Shubert is charged in the disappearance and murder of his girlfriend, Bonnie Cooner.
FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ga. -- Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Kris Sperry positively identified the body of a woman found in a well in Franklin County as Bonnie Cooner.
According to John Bankead of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Dr. Sperry also determined that Cooner died from being strangled and from blunt head trauma.
On Sunday, investigators received information of the disappearance of a Cannon woman, which led Franklin County Sheriff's and GBI investigators to find a body in an abandoned well.
At that time, Bankhead said the body was tentatively identified as Bonnie Cooner, 33, who disappeared on January 28. Investigators began excavation of the well on Casey Road. They took Cooner's remains to the GBI Crime Lab.
Cooner was last seen by her boyfriend, Brent James Shubert, who was arrested early Sunday morning in South Carolina. Shubert is charged with murder and concealing a body. He remains in custody while awaiting extradition to Georgia.
