MACON, Ga. (AP) -- Police in Macon say a man was hospitalized after beaten with a piece of asphalt during an armed robbery.

Macon police spokeswoman Jami Gaudet says an unidentified man was sitting in his car before heading to work Monday morning when two men approached. Gaudet says one man was brandishing a pistol and the other was holding a piece of asphalt.

Police say the armed man demanded money while the man holding the asphalt hit the victim in his head. The victim handed over a small amount of money and the suspects fled the scene.

Gaudet says the victim - who was bleeding from the head - was taken to a local medical center. Gaudet encouraged tipsters to contact police with information on the case.
