SMYRNA, Ga. -- One man is dead after wrecking his car early Wednesday morning in Austell.

Police reported that 67-year-old Nelson Villavicencio of Austell was driving his car just after 11:00 a.m., when he crashed near the intersection of the East-West Connector and Fontaine Road.

Sergeant Dana Pierce said witnesses told investigators that a male was driving a white 2001 Hyundai Elantra westbound on the East-West Connector. He passed through the intersection, and witnesses saw him drive off the road and into the grass shoulder where he ran into trees.

According to Pierce, no witnesses knew why Villavicencio ran off the road. After the crash, an ambulence took him to Wellstar South Cobb Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators believe Villavicencio was in medical distress as the crash happened. An autopsy will be carried out by the Cobb County Medical Examiner's Office.

Police ask anyone with more details on the accident to call (770) 499-3987.
