AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) -- Employees at a beef processing plant in Augusta were evacuated from the building and sent home after an ammonia leak Thursday.
FPL Food was aired out following an ammonia leak from a refrigeration system.
Steve Hixon, director of marketing at FPL, said employees were taken to a nearby hospital for evaluations. The plant employs about 500 people and it was unclear how many employees were evaluated. No injuries were reported.
Kevin Chambers, spokesman for Georgia's Environmental Protection Division, says the leak was contained and stopped.
