A tweet captured from Mayor Kasim Reed's feed Tuesday night
ATLANTA - Following on the heels of Twitter hacks of accounts belonging to Burger King and Jeep earlier this week, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed's official Twitter account was apparently hacked Tuesday night.
A single erroneous tweet came from the mayor's account during the evening.
"Wrong number. This is a welfare phone now. You using up my texts"
A short time later, a second tweet came from the account acknowledging the hacking, and saying that the account was back under control. The bizarre tweet was deleted.
"Sorry about that. My account was compromised, but we're back on track."
Internet security experts point out that users of social media need to make certain that they have strong levels of security in place to avoid some of the types of hacks that have been taking place recently.
