VATICAN CITY -- On Thursday, Pope Benedict XVI will become the first pontiff to step down in more than 600 years.

The 85-year-old pontiff is stepping down, reportedly because of his health.

More than 100,000 people packed St. Peter's Square Sunday to watch the pope deliver his final Sunday blessing.

He addressed the crowd in several languages, saying God had called on him to dedicate himself even more to prayer and meditation, but that he was not abandoning the Church.
