Jack Fussell is walking "across the land" to raise awareness of Alzheimer's Disease.

CANTON, Ga. -- Jack Fussell of Canton is near the beginning of what he calls his walk across the land to raise money and awareness of Alzheimer's Disease.

"I think I've got about 18 miles already today," Fussell said in a video clip from his journey that's posted on YouTube. "It's going good, going really good."

Fussell, 62, started in Savannah in January, determined to make a difference after losing his father to Alzheimer's 12 years ago.

A year later, his own health crisis began a transformation.

He lost more than 100 pounds by running and climbing the stairs at Amicalola Falls State Park.

Once he ran up and down 50 times in a day.

"I sure do need your help," Fussell said to his supports in a video clip on YouTube. "All I want to do is raise money for the Alzheimer's Association and raise awareness."

Fussell's already raised more than $13,000, and there's still a long way to go.

He plans to walk and jog all the way to Monterey, California, journey that could take eight more months.
