ATLANTA -- A gunman hijacked a shuttle bus around Sunday morning at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and led police on a wild pursuit that ended in a crash.
Earlier, in the Ground Transportation area, the male approached several taxi drivers, a Park & Ride shuttle driver and the international terminal shuttle driver asking for a ride to College Park. All the drivers refused to give the man a ride.
According to Officer Kim Jones, Atlanta Police Department spokeswoman, the assailant then pulled a .22-caliber revolver on a female shuttle-driver and forced her off her bus. The suspect then drove the shuttle-bus from the terminal.
Police units from Atlanta and Clayton County began an immediate pursuit. During the chase, the suspect fired shots at the officers in pursuit. He also rammed a taxi and struck an electrical transformer, causing a brush fire at the intersection of Riverdale Road and Phoenix Boulevard.
The chase ended on Central Avenue at I-75, where the suspect was taken into custody.
There were no injuries reported.
