ATLANTA -- Authorities say an elderly man suffered first degree burns on his hands and face when fire broke out in a home on Atlanta's west side early Monday.
The one-story, wood frame house on Fox Street NW was fully involved in flames when firefighters arrived shortly after midnight.
The victim, whose identity was not released, was not rescued for several minutes as the fire was too intense for firefighters to enter. The man was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital's burn unit for treatment.
Authorities have not determined if the man lived at the address. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
