ATLANTA -- College students at the Georgia Tech campus are taking a stand for 27 hours straight with the mission to raise awareness of modern-day slavery.

The significance of the 27 hours is for the estimated 27 million people worldwide who are forced into forms of slavery such as sexual exploitation, forced labor and armed conflict.

The "Stand for Freedom" event is aimed at raising money for human rights advocates.

Each student only stands for two to eight hours at a time.
