Meters in Decatur Square allow drivers to pay by phone.
DECATUR -- Advancing technology is allowing municipalities to find ways for citizens to pay for services using a variety of methods. In Decatur, a pilot program is underway which enables certain parking meters to accept payment by phone.
But a glitch in the system recently created great frustration for at least one driver parking in Decatur Square. He payed by phone, received a text confirmation and later returned to find his car ticketed. To make matters worse, he was told he had to appear in court to dispute the ticket.
That's when he contacted 11Alive's Commuter Dude for help. After sending out a chain of emails to numerous City officials, Commuter Dude was able to make headway and bring the problem to the City's attention.
