ATLANTA -- Delta passengers are praising a pilot for ordering pizza for everyone on board during a weather diversion to Knoxville on Monday.
The flight from Boston to Atlanta was one of many impacted by severe weather around Hartsfield-Jackson International.
"I didn't get in until 2 o'clock in the morning, but I had a good story to tell during the trip," said passenger Ryan Wood.
The plane had been sitting on the tarmac in Knoxville for three hours when the pilot made an announcement.
"He came across the speaker system and told us he had Pizza Hut deliver to our plane," another passenger told the Today Show.
As many as 30 pizzas were brought on board with a police escort.
"They put the pizzas in the back of the cop car. I suspect they couldn't drive a pizza delivery van on the tarmac for security reasons," Wood said.
"It was still hot, too. That was the best part," he added.
The passengers weren't told who paid for the pizzas, but they suspect it was the pilot.
