Suspect inside elementary school in Athens
Suspects gold Buick four door sedan
WINDER, Ga -- Police in two counties are warning businesses to be aware of a very daring thief. He's posing as a maintenance employee and getting inside businesses and stealing employee's wallets.
The thief hit four businesses and a school in Athens between March 15, 2013 and March 19, 2013. He also hit three businesses in Winder on the 19th.
The suspect has posed as a carpet cleaner and pest control worker to get into the businesses. On March 15, 2013 he told employees of an insurance company on Atlanta Highway in Athens that he was there to clean the carpet. When he left one of the employee's wallets was missing.
On March 16th he stole a wallet from an employee at an animal clinic on Hawthorne Avenue in Athens.
He also walked into a Chiropractor's office on West Broad Street in Athens the same day after posing as a pest control worker. Nothing was missing.
That same night he walked into the Outback Steakhouse on Atlanta Highway and told employees he was there to check the beer kegs. One employee's wallet was stolen.
Then on March 19th he walked into Timothy Road Elementary School in Athens and took an employee's wallet.
That same day he hit three businesses in Winder, about 25 miles west of Athens. One was a hair salon where he posed as a pest control worker and stole a wallet. He also took two wallets from employees at a BB&T Bank on South Broad Street. He told an employee he was there to clean the carpets. "He basically told them that he needed to inspect the area," said Winder Police Officer Chris Cooper.
Officer Cooper said he roamed through offices and took wallets out of women's purses that were sitting on their desks. "One of the wallets that he took was recovered by a citizen who turned it in to us," Cooper said. "We got in touch with the victim who told us the only thing missing was cash."
"We would encourage anyone who is in that type of situation to first verify that the person is in fact there to do legitimate service and that it's been scheduled," Officer Cooper said.
Athens-Clarke County Police are asking anyone who knows the suspect to call Crime Stoppers.
Winder Police are asking anyone with information to call Det. Rikki Banks at 770-867-2156.
