KENNESAW, Ga. -- When you think of Kennesaw, you don't automatically think of abandoned and condemned houses and and the city wants to keep it that way.

One of the big selling points of the town is its attractive communities where neighbors keep up the property and enjoy the quality of life.

But the city manager wants to make sure that empty houses don't begin to proliferate and become dangerous eyesores.

And a proposal has been introduced to fine owners who violate the housing codes -- the fine will be seven times their tax rate, its called a blight tax and neighbors say it's a good idea.
The tax penalty which is based on a law in Griffin would be the final option after the owner has been notified of their violation.

The measure is still in the proposal stage so there's no timetable as to when it might be introduced to the council.
